Pumpkin perfection

We’ve got a lot of love for pumpkins! In October the supermarkets and shops get filled with them in the run up to Halloween but they are good for so much more than carving.

Technically pumpkins are a fruit, which goes some way to explaining why they are so versatile and great for cooking both sweet and savoury dishes. Check out our favourite Pumpkin recipes including Pork and Pumpkin traybake, Pumpkin Hummus and Spiced Pumpkin Muffins

As well as using the deliciously sweet flesh for soups, stews, roasting, pies and purees we love to dry and toast the seeds and store them for adding extra nutty flavour to dishes throughout the year.

In honour of this jewel of the veg patch here are a few of our favourite pumpkin facts.

1.      Pumpkins aren’t all orange! Pumpkins come in many different varieties and can be white, green, yellow or red.

2.      Pumpkins are good sources of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, potassium, protein, and iron.

3.      Pumpkins are a member of the gourd family, which includes cucumbers, honeydew melons, cantaloupe, watermelons courgettes.
