sweet or savoury?

When it comes to pancake fillings thereare a few classics that spring to mind. Lemon and sugar, chocolate spread, golden syrup have got to be up there amongst the nation’s favourite ways to fill a pancake on Shrove Tuesday. But what about those who don’t have a sweet tooth? The thing we love about pancakes is they are so versatile and are just as good savoury as they are sweet.

So here are our top 3 savoury pancake fillings chosen by the littleseed.team

  1. Spicy Mexican Pancakes

Add a glug of littleseed pizza drizzle oil to a frying pan and cook chicken breast strips over a medium heat until golden.

Add some sliced peppers and onions and cook for a minute until they start to soften.

Add 2 tsps of smoked paprika and 2 tsps of ground cumin and stir until the spices coat the chicken, onions and peppers.

Add a splash of water and cook for another 2 minutes. Spoon a generous amount on to a pancake and top with soured cream, guacamole or cheese (or all three)

  2. Creamy garlicky mushroom pancakes

Add a glug of littleseed Garlic & Herb Oil to your pan on a medium heat. Add a sliced red onions and sliced mushrooms to the pan and cook until soft.

Stir through a couple of tablespoons of cream cheese then add a generous dollop to your pancake, roll up and enjoy.

  3. Spicy Asian Style veggie Pancakes

Add a glug of littleseed Spicy Stir Fry oil to a hot wok or frying pan. Throw a selection of veggies into the pan. You can use a stirfry pack (we love the ones with beansprouts for a bit of crunch) or just what you’ve got hanging around in the fridge works easily as well.

Once the veg has softened add a squeeze of lime juice.

Add a generous spoonful of the veggie mixture to your pancake, then drizzle on some sweet chilli sauce and a few peanuts (optional).
