Why we don’t package in glass bottles
This is something we get asked about a lot. We choose to package our oil in bottles made from 94% recycled paper with a food grade inner pouch, rather than glass. Here’s why:
Reduction of carbon emissions
Creating and recycling glass uses a large amount of energy, resulting in much higher carbon emissions when compared to paper and plastic. As regenerative farmers we actively choose agricultural practices which release less carbon into the atmosphere, so we want our packaging to do the same.
Saving natural resources
Glass is made from sand, soda ash, and limestone. Removing sand from rivers and coastlines contributes to flooding and rising sea levels.Smarter recycling
Paper and plastic are more energy efficient to recycle than glass. It takes just 10% of the energy to recycle plastic compared to making new plastic, while recycled glass still needs 66% of the energy of new glass production. Plastic recycling also uses less water and fossil fuels.Lower transport emissions
We keep the transport emissions of our oil as low as possible by using rapeseed grown on British farms. In addition, our paper bottle weighs about 5x less than the glass equivelant, which means lower transport emissions.
